Ye’, thankfully there are some takeaways that stay open until 4am.

So I can always get a pizza, kebab, chips, beer, some wines, spirits, etc... anytime I want/need.

Funny thing, I just noticed the term ‘takeaway’ for the first time while rewatching the first season of Sherlock this evening. I assume from what transpired in the show that it’s the British term for delivery?

Takeaway is a delivery, yes.

A takeaway is non eat in food place.

You can go and place your order in person to takeaway home, or phone, text, e-mail or online an order for delivery.

Quick Google search seems to indicate it’s used that way in the States, but I’ve never heard the term outside of British TV and this thread.

It’s one of the better ones. I haven’t really watched Qi since Sandy took over. Nothing against her, I really enjoy it, but just fell off the bandwagon

I think takeaway is an old term used where previously you had to visit the place to get your food but now you can get or order your food many ways but the old term is still used.

We also call these places takeaways such as Chinese takeaways, Indian takeaways, etc...
